Doneil Henry Blackburn loan - A magnificent debut

A magnificent debut

Rovers manager Gary Bowyer was full of praise for the way Doneil Henry took his first outing in English football in his stride in the win over Sheffield Wednesday.
It was a hectic day for the young Canadian, that started as being part of a 20-man squad as West Ham United prepared to take on Chelsea, and ended with 90 minutes and a win under his belt for Blackburn Rovers.

Signed on a month's loan that lunchtime, a hamstring injury to Alex Baptiste meant Henry was thrust straight into the action at Hillsborough and he didn't disappoint with an outstanding debut performance.

"He got on a train at 1.30pm from London and arrived in Sheffield at four o'clock," explained Bowyer.

"He came and met the boys at 4.30pm, had some tea, did pre-match, got his tracksuit on, got on the bus and went and played a magnificent debut. That was his day.

"We have to thank everybody at West Ham that has helped to make it possible, but what a performance from him.

"He deserves an unbelievable amount of credit. He's 21 years of age, he isn't 22 until April, but the way he just went about it was immense - absolutely immense - against one of the toughest strikers in the division in Nuhiu for the way he plays the game.

"In the first 5-10 minutes you expect him to be nervous and rightly so, but he grew into the game and he was immense, he and Killa were terrific.

"He's a competitor, he's agressive, he is quick and he's a defender, you saw that.

"The lad can play when he needs to and he's got an unbelievable character as well. I've said that all along about the people that we bring in, he's a top lad."

The best of the action from the win over Sheffield Wednesday will be available to view on our YouTube channel from 12noon today.

Great news. That division was the making of Reid. Really good that Henry is getting some decent experience there as well.

Re: Doneil Henry Blackburn loan - A magnificent debut
Doneil Henry's impressive start to his Blackburn career has earned the praise of manager Gary Bowyer.

The on-loan West Ham centre-back, 21, has starred in two Rovers victories against Sheffield Wednesday and Bolton since moving to Ewood Park. slotting in seamlessly next to Matt Kilgallon at the heart of the back four.

Henry dealt with former Liverpool and England striker Emile Heskey in his second appearance for the club on Wednesday night and later produced the header which Jordan Rhodes diverted into the goal for Blackburn's stoppage-time winner.

"Young Doneil Henry came in and gave an unbelieveable performance," said Bowyer,

"He was against a very experienced striker in Emile Heskey. The lad's had a real baptism of fire in terms of the two strikers he's played against - (Atdhe) Nuhiu at Sheffield Wednesday and Heskey.

"He's stood up to both of them, I'm full of admiration for the kid; he's done ever so well."

I've always assumed Hugh is just some sort of joke persona, hence I take absolutely no notice of him.

If he is actually being serious then he's a proper weirdo.

I don't know much about the lad, but having just watched Jordan Rhodes' winner in the dying minutes last night, I noticed it was Henry's assist from a corner when he flicked a neat header on for Rhodes. He looks physically impressive,I'll say that.

When have you watched him?

I have seen a fair bit including live games in the past. The last time live was the Australia- Canada friendly at Craven Cottage in October 2013. He lost 0-3.

Last summer's MLS, he put in some very poor performances but since he was technically already gone from Toronto and only playing back on loan, maybe (hopefully) his head wasn't in it. He has wanted a move to Europe for a bit.

He is strong and pretty quick, not technically great at this point but things are very encouraging so far. I said when he came I didn't think he was ready for Premiership any time soon but hopefully, on the any time soon part he can prove me wrong.

But I too would be interested , Hugh, in what you think his specific special qualities are.

Hugh, how can I put this ?.......... You really are a cunt of the highest order

You write "stuff" that basically means fuck all, a lot of words that are empty to describe something you know FUCK ALL about

Just give it up and come clean, you know diddly about Henry, just like the rest of us, you have NO special knowledge other than in your delusional head

We seem to be set fair in the CB dept, particuarly if Oxford and Burke continue to progress, ableit they won't get a game if the cunt stays.

He has unique talents as a central defender which allow him to offer not just the abilities to be an average central defender but things that make his game recognisable, distinguishable and discernible from all others ,

What abilities are they, Hugh son?!
